Academic TradCat was founded in 2015 by Joanne LaMothe and her daughter Kathleen Johnson.

As a sewing teacher and seamstress for over 25 years, Joanne’s experience in the industry surpasses that of many others. As a mother of 11, she  understands that children's school needs can be fairly expensive, especially when a family has several school age children in private schools. Many children outgrow their clothes just barely after they’ve been worn in, and school dress codes often make changes and updates, not to mention the daily wear and tear on the clothing of healthy children who study and play with all their youthful vigor. With these things in mind, she launched Academic TradCat with the idea that she could bring quality clothing at an affordable price to all families. Academic TradCat draws its inventory from both uniform brand names and custom sewn items made in the shop.

Kathleen's experience comes from being a student in private school. She understands the struggle of school dress codes and finding the perfect pieces that adhere to the school's codes. With her extensive professional experience in customer service and finance, and by extension with dress codes, she has a great understanding of and respect for requirements that must be met.

The two have joined together to collaborate and bring you the best quality merchandise for the best possible prices. They are always more than happy to work with customers who have unique things in mind, from articles of clothing to logo design and everything in between.
